APTA Spokesperson

Robyn Culbertson is a physical therapist at the Medical University of South Carolina Northeast Columbia outpatient therapy clinic. Her passion is helping older adults stay healthy and strong, reduce their risks of falls and subsequent injury and hospitalization, improve their mobility, and allow them to age safely and comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.

Prior to her career in physical therapy, she worked for nearly 15 years in journalism and mass communications. Her interest in a physical therapy career grew out of her work as a USA Triathlon, USA Cycling, and USA Track and Field coach, when she found herself interested in helping her athletes prevent injury and recover faster.

Culbertson received a doctor of physical therapy degree from the University of South Carolina. She is a board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric physical therapy. She is also a Lee Silverman Voice Treatment BIG-certified clinician and holds certifications in falls prevention and dry needling. She serves as Journal of Geriatric Physical Therapy social and digital media co-coordinator and APTA South Carolina communications committee chair. She is a 2025 recipient of the APTA Emerging Leader award.
