June 6, 2019: Basketball is the sport of first choice of millions of youth in the United States and, by some estimates, as many as 800 million individuals of all ages worldwide.
With its ever-increasing popularity, however, comes increased risk of injury—particularly among those unware of how best to decrease that risk through proper preparation and by observing best practices.
In this episode of Move Forward Radio, physical therapist Amy Atmore, a sports specialist, discusses the most common injuries and why they happen, factors such as body mechanics, body awareness, athleticism, nutrition, hydration, and “dynamic” warm-ups to minimize injury risk and maximize athletic performance. She also addresses simple steps that all athletes should take to best ensure staying at the top of their game and considerations to make for return-to-play from injuries.

Amy Atmore, PT, DPT, is a physical therapist specializing in sports medicine in Southern California. She is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
