About
Joshua J. Knitter, PT, DPT
Joshua Knitter, PT, DPT, OCS, is a board-certified orthopaedic clinical specialist practicing in outpatient orthopaedics. He earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science after completing his bachelor???s degree in kinesiology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He later completed an ABPTRFE-accredited orthopaedic residency through Illinois Bone & Joint Institute. Joshua treats a wide range of operative and nonoperative orthopaedic conditions involving the shoulder, hip, knee, spine, and ankle. His experience includes acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain, joint and soft-tissue injuries, movement-related impairments, sports and overuse injuries, and rehabilitation following orthopaedic surgery. He has a particular interest in biomechanics and how joint mechanics, movement patterns, motor control, and tissue capacity contribute to pain and functional limitations. His approach combines detailed clinical reasoning with evidence-based practice to identify the factors most relevant to each patient rather than relying solely on standardized protocols. Treatment may incorporate therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular re-education, manual therapy, and patient education, with an emphasis on restoring efficient movement and building confidence through individualized progression. Joshua has also contributed to orthopaedic residency education and helped develop preoperative physical therapy pathways for patients preparing for joint replacement and rotator cuff surgery. He currently provides one-on-one orthopaedic rehabilitation at Chicago Hand & Orthopedic Surgery Centers.Professional Education
