Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States.

Those fortunate enough to survive a stroke often face problems with mobility, speech, balance, weakness, and memory loss, among other symptoms. Fortunately, depending on stroke severity and a person's health – many of these side effects can be effectively treated by a physical therapist.

In this episode, physical therapist Julia M. O. Castleberry, addresses all aspects of strokes. She describes what stroke rehabilitation looks like, how to spot a stroke, and identifies who is at risk. She also shares how to lower your stroke risk.

Physical therapist Julia M. O. Castleberry, PT, DPT, MS, board-certified clinical specialist in geriatric and neurologic physical therapy, has practiced in adult rehabilitation for the past 20 years. She is an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program of Radford University. In addition to teaching and clinical practice, Castleberry lectures nationally on the topics of geriatrics, falls, and stroke rehabilitation.
