• Focus on Functional Improvement

When people with chronic pain see a physical therapist for the first time, they're often pleasantly surprised by how much they improve.

"They're not surprised it helps, they're surprised at the results," says Pat Sheehy, PT, MS.

Sheehy encourages people receiving treatment to focus on their functional improvement toward an active lifestyle rather than on the reduction of pain alone.

This video is produced by Net Health in support of APTA's #ChoosePT campaign, raising awareness about the risks of long-term opioid use and safe approaches to pain management.
